Shutting Down

Well due to our wonderful economy I am being forced to uproot my family and leave Florida. This will be my last post. Sorry guys. All I can say is that it has been fun and that Couponing Saved my family! If it were not for our stock pile we would not be eating right now. We most definitely have more grim times ahead as a nation. Stay strong and keep couponing!!!!!!

No Shopping This Week

We have had a busy week thus far and I have not had time or energy enough to even contemplate couponing. This is a perfect example of the Great Rewards that couponing blesses us with; the ability to take a week off and live off of the stockpile if needed! If any of you find any real good deals please leave a comment for others! Happy Shopping!

Free Prescriptions

I posted once before that Publix Pharmacies offer certain antibiotics for FREE. Recently they have added a few other medications to the list. Here is an article in the Orlando Sentinel about the most recent Lisinopril which is a Blood Pressure Medicine! This should come in handy for many many people as High Blood Pressure is very common!

For a list of all medications that Publix provides for FREE with a prescription click here.

Reader's Stories

Give someone a coupon and you have helped them save for a day. Teach someone to coupon and you have helped them save for a lifetime.

This past week has been awesome! I recieved three messages from blog followers and close friends letting me know that because of me and my blog they have learned how to coupon and just saved a bunch on their first shopping trips. "I can't coupon because I don't eat those foods"!

"I can't coupon because I don't eat those foods"! Ever hear these words before? I hear it all the time from friends that see my Weekly Savings@Publix Posts. Excuses excuses, this is all I ever hear from people when I recommend that they start couponing. Although you don't normally see coupons for such products and it is more difficult to save on these special items, it is not impossible.

It is true that many people have diets or "ways of life" that require them to eat certain foods and that it is not beneficial for these manufacturers to advertise with coupons in the newspapers. However, it is possible to find coupons for such items elsewhere. The best advice I can give people like this is:

1. Write or email the manufacturers to request coupons and check website/facebook
2. Coupon and save on Non-Food items
3. Coupon and find deals on "Money-Makers

Many manufacturing companies that specialize in diet foods have a specific consumer niche to which they cater. This means that advertising with coupons to the general public in the Sunday newspaper is not cost effective for them. This however does not mean that they don't produce coupons at all. In-fact most companies now-a-days have printable coupons online at the product webpage or at the associated Facebook Promotions Page. A tried and true method of obtaining such elusive coupons is to write or email a request directly to the company. For example: My daughter can not drink cow's milk nor soy so we tried goat milk and it was a success. I have never seen coupons for Mayenberg Goat Milk so I ventured to the website and sent a request for coupons via the webpage. In a couple weeks I had a nice little surprise in the mail.

I also let my friends know of a common misconception about coupons. The majority of grocery savings comes not from food coupons but rather from non-food coupons such as toiletries and cleaning supplies. Toiletries and cleaning supplies can get very expensive. You can rapidly increase the balance of your savings account by not being "brand specific" on non-food items.

Finally I love to let them in on a little couponing trick about items known as "money makers". Every Extreme Couponer's goal is to find money makers! These are items that are priced very low and when matched with coupons, the balance due drops into the negative range. Most grocery stores will take this negative balance and apply it towards the rest of your grocery bill! Basically the store is paying you to take those items home. This is the most sought after savings deal by extreme couponers because it allows you to put "FREE" money towards the purchase of other groceries that don't have coupons such as those "diet specific" items.

It is possible to coupon and save even when you are on restricting diets. It just takes a little extra work and focus! Good luck!

Recipes using only ingredients you have at home now

I am starving and am not a cook by any means. I was looking through the fridge and the cabinets with a blank stare as do most men. I then thought to myself that there must be a better way....possibly some sort of program out there that might allow me to enter what ingredients I have on hand and then recommend recipes that I can throw together.

I found it! Supercook.com allows you to enter each ingredient that you have in your pantry or fridge one at a time. As you enter them a list of recipes appears on the right side and is continuously updated as you add more ingredients. Now I just need to find an app that will do the cooking for me!

Freebies

Before I started couponing I never ever bothered with signing up for any kind of Free Samples in the mail. I never wanted to be bothered filling out my info over and over only to get a small sample and tons of junk mail.

Now that I have delved into the couponing lifestyle I am finding ways to save on everything and feel more compelled to sign up for these freebies and samples. I set up a separate email address just for this along with a separate facebook account for those required "likes". I also now feel that junk mail is a small price to pay for free stuff. In addition to getting these free samples, most of the time you get some very cool high value coupons for those very products! Many browsers now-a-days including Google Chrome have what is known as Auto-Complete and this feature will fill in common forms such as Name and Address for you so that this repetitive process is no longer a pain!

I now keep a daily updated page specifically for freebies and samples here. Check in every day to get the most complete list around.

Free Deodorant

Well I am bummed to say the least.....
I got up early today to head over to that Publix that was selling the Degree Deodorants at $2.45 so that I could make use of my coupons and get them for free. I verified the price over the phone the other day but they were out of stock. Being that it was not a Sale price I could not obtain a rain check thus I waited for the shelves to be stocked today Thursday. I neglected to even think that the "regular" price could or would change. I make it all the way there with coupons in hand only to be turned away by an evil sign that said $2.93. :(

Coupons are still good though and I will do another phone search for a cheaper price and let you guys know if i find one. We have until 9/16!

Oh and I did a price search online using Publix Curbside website and the stores in Georgia dropped the price this week down to $2.07 for the Degree Deodorants. That means that if they use both coupons they will make $0.68 on each stick!!! That is an awesome money maker! If you have at least 45 coupons you can make $30.00 to put towards other groceries!! Maybe we should be moving to Georgia! ;-)

ArmorAll - Race to the Finish Sweepstakes

I finally received my instant prize for playing an Armor All Sweepstakes for a new Camaro back in May. No I didn't win the Camaro but I won a Tire Prize Pack including a coupon for one Free Armor All product, a digital tire gauge w/light, a 39 pc Roadside First Aid Kit, and an Air Compressor.

Would have loved to win a Camaro but this is nice too!

Always enter these things! Even the little prizes are worth the effort and it is always cool to get free stuff in the mail!

Free Deodorant

FREE DEODORANT!!!!

In Georgia it is real easy to get free things at Publix but here in Florida we have to do a little searching.

In the current Publix Green Flyer you will find a $2/1 coupon for Degree or Dove deodorants.

There is also a manufacturer's coupon in the 8/28 RP circular for $75/1 Non Premium degree deodorants.

If your store charges $2.75 or less then you are in like flynn! However, this I found out tonight is hard to come by in the Space Coast area! I drove to two of my favorite locations and the lowest I could find was $2.93. Not a bad deal but not FREE! Urgghhh. So I come home and decide to call around to do some price checks. Planning on a trip to Orlando tomorrow so I included some Publix's along the route to Orlando too! 40 minutes later I finally find one that has a price for the Degree deodorant that will allow me to get them free with coupons but they are all sold out. Hooray! Not a big problem though since they are not on sale and both coupons are good for a while. Publix coupon expires on 9/16 while the mfr coupon expires 9/25. So we have until the sixteenth for them to refill the shelves.

Publix Non-Advertised Prices Online

Ever want to know prices for items that are not in the weekly flyers? I have always just had to get in the car and drive over to my local store to find this info out. I found a neat little trick that can help us out here. Publix is doing a trial run at a few stores on a new service called Publix Curbside. Publix Curbside is basically a curbside pick-up service for groceries. Since you must place your order ahead of time from a computer they make the prices available for all of Publix's products online at the Curbside website: http://www.publix.com/curbside/

The trial run of this program is for only three Publix locations though. One in Tampa Florida, and two in Georgia. I am going to use the Florida store to give me an estimate as to what I can expect prices to be at my local store. It may not be perfect but an estimate suits my needs!

Tip # 8

Tip # 8:

Though sites like Iheartpublix.com and couponmom.com try really hard to make sure they cover every possible deal and list every available coupon they are not perfect. I think it would be near impossible to list every deal and every available coupon that is out there every week every month and year to year.

The point I am trying to make is that if you want to make sure you do not miss any deals:
1. Save every coupon you come across
2. Personally cross reference your store sales against online coupon databases and also against your binder in order to come up with your own "match-ups".

Using Coupon Match-ups from online sites makes our job so easy and is a life saver for many. However, if you have the time you should do it yourself and compare with theirs. Sometimes they miss things especially if you have coupons in your binder that they are not aware of!

One such instance happened to me this week. Iheartpublix.com posted their "match-ups" last week and I copied down the ones that I wanted as usual. When doing my own "match-ups" though, I found a deal that was not mentioned on that website. Publix was having a BOGO sale on Cheerios. I had some manufacturer coupons and store coupons for the cereal. Iheartpublix.com listed the manufacturer coupons but not the store coupons. The store coupons were $2/1 and enabled me to get the boxes of cereal for free. Actually the store paid me $0.11 per box to take them home!

If you have the time, do your own match-ups!
Found some new Tear Pad coupons over at the Merritt Island Publix on the Merritt Island Causeway.

Also keep an eye open for some new coupon flyers as seen over at Iheartpublix.com!

Remember guys, I am mostly documenting my personal couponing trek here. If you want all of the most up to date info on couponing and new booklets/deals at Publix etc., make sure you check out sites like iheartpublix.com on a daily basis. I actually check in daily with multiple sites to make sure I am getting all the possible info that I can. I only post a small fraction of what I find!

$5/$30 Publix Booklet

There is rumor about a Publix booklet being handed out at a register during checkout over in Tampa. This booklet supposedly contains coupons for $5 off a $30 purchase. One coupon for every month until May 2012! I have not seen this in our neck of the woods but am crossing my fingers! $5.00 is not much but it adds up when you combine it with all the coupons and sales.

Keep your eyes and ears open and please if anyone sees this over here on the east coast, let me know!

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend!

Last Minute Deal

Well, unfortunately Publix Stores in this region are not doing BOGO on Natures Own Whole Wheat but instead on Butter Bread. I don't eat Butter Bread so I opted to let my coupons expire and go to waste. :(

On a brighter note I was able to make good on the Advil deal! Now I do want to state two things here:

1. Today was the last day to get this deal since the Publix coupon expires today and I purchased them one hour before store closing. I did this so that I would not hoard the store's inventory and possibly ruin it for others.

2. Obviously the amount I purchased is more than my family of three needs and I will be donating most of these!

Winn Dixie Flyer $5 off Coupon

We here in Central Florida may not have had the benefit that South Florida had in today's papers with the $10 Gift Card for Publix but if your local Publix considers Winn Dixie a competitor go over and grab a Winn Dixie Weekly Flyer or two or three or four. They have starting today a coupon for $5 off of your bill with a purchase of $30 or more. If you have a large grocery list then you can break it up into multiple transactions and use multiple coupons on each $30 transaction.

Not as good as South Florida's deal but close. $10 gift card for $50 purchase vs. Winn Dixie's equivalent $10 off of $60 purchase.

New Publix Green Advantage Flyer

Don't forget guys there is a new Publix Green Advantage flyer coming out 8/27 - 9/16

Head on over to iheartpublix for the associated match-ups:

Free $10 Publix Gift Card for South Florida

Sorry guys but we didnt get this one here! If you have any friends that live in South Florida though, let them know and direct them to this iheartpublix post:

Remember, if you have a grocery bill that is over $100 you can use two coupons for two gift cards and if over $150.00 you can use three for three cards etc etc.....

I currently have a ton of Birds Eye SteamFresh mfr $0.35 coupons, $1/2 Knorr Pasta Sides Publix coupons, and $2/1 mfr coupon for Woolite Laundry Detergents that I am willing to unload among others!

I am looking for Pampers, Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, and Hebrew National Hot Dogs coupons. If you are interested let me know. Maybe we can even start a Coupon Train here in the Space Coast area!

Hidden Coupons in Sunday Paper

I have not picked up my Sunday Papers yet because I do not usually get them until early Monday mornings but I got an email alerting me of some hidden coupons in the PARADE magazine that is in the Sunday Paper.

My wife picked this up in the Produce section. $1.00 off of Publix Produce when you buy any 2 Tostitos Tortilla Chips. I thought this would be a perfect post to include my wife's recipe for the World's best Nachos but she is keeping it a secret. Sorry guys!

Do not fret though, the coupon comes attached to a recipe for a Killer Quacamole Dip! Enjoy.

"Follow" Button

Hey guys. Hope your weekend is going well! Just wanted to let you know that for some reason the Blog "Follow" Button had been inadvertently removed and is now back at the top left of the screen.

Don't forget to get your Sunday Newspapers today! Remember that there will only be one coupon circular today.... Smart Source.

If you want to know what circulars are coming out when you check out the following blog:

New Publix Freebie!!!!!

Not seen in Publix's weekly flyer, McCormick's Grill Mates Spices went on sale yesterday according to the Publix Yellow Advantage Flyer "Backyard Barbecue" 8/20/11-9/9/11. The spices are now 2/$1.99 and in the Publix Sweet Savings Free Booklet there is a mfr coupon for $1.00 making them FREE!!!!!!

Be sure to stock up on these as deals on spices like this only happen this time of year from what I hear (barbecue season).

I did not see this on any other coupon blog or site. I would have missed this had it not been for the friendly staff at my local store. They know me by now and get excited every time I come shopping. They seem as if they want to be a part of the coupon experience and try to help me in any way they can. One of the Customer Service employees in particular approached me yesterday to ask if I was aware of the McCormick Spice deal and handed me the flyers. Good people!!! I love Publix or should I say IheartPublix?

"Extreme Couponing" facing big changes

http://www.wpri.com/dpp/news/12_for_action/extreme-online-couponing-facing-major-changes-call-for-action

"Extreme Couponing" is in the news again. Found an article (link above) that talks about what we all knew would eventually happen. The Big Wigs of The Coupon Information Corporation have taken notice of the TLC tv show and of the mass response by the public. They are pressuring Ebay to stop the sale of coupons online. Keep in mind though, currently it is not illegal to buy or sell coupons online! I am sure that this is just the first step for the Coupon Information Corporation in regaining control of and moderating coupon usage in this country.

This week's take @ the Drugstores

CVS - This week CVS on Facebook had a printable coupon for a Free bottle of body wash if you "liked" them. I printed two. Also this week CVS still had the ongoing deal where if you buy $30 worth of specific products you get a FREE $10 gas card. I noticed that one of these specific products was one that I needed; 24pk case of Nestle Pure Life Water. I just so happened to have some coupons for Nestle Water; $.50 per case and I will be buying gas soon anyway. I then opened my email to find that I just received a 25% off coupon for CVS. Printed it and ran to the store and brought ten cases of water to the register along with the body wash bottles.....

-Ten 24pk Cases Nestle Water
-Two bottles of CVS Body Wash

Retail: $49.17
Actual: $20.26 - (value of $10 gas card) = $10.26
A savings of 79%

Walgreens - This week they were running a special for 6pk Expo Dry Erase Markers for $3.99. Using an instore coupon for $3 and two printable $2/2 mfr coupons I brought that price down to -$0.01. Four Packages of 6 markers FREE! Can't beat that!

This week's take @ Publix

This week turned out not to be too shabby. I didn't get the amount of Gatorade that I had planned on due to an error on my part. I didn't have the particular coupon that I thought I had. Oh well, C'est la vie. I am not going to list every single grocery item like some of these other blogs do. Instead I will just list my overall savings and a few of the Extreme Savings.
Today's grocery trip:

Retail: $331.64
Actual: $97.02
Savings Percentage: 71% BEST YET!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!

These numbers were obtained through my regular couponing and three Publix $25 Gift Cards. Here is the kicker though...... the gift cards were free money! This past week's Winn Dixie flyer had a coupon for a Free $25 gift card from the pharmacy when you fill a new prescription. I previously posted about this. Since Publix Stores around here accept Winn Dixie as a competitor they honored that coupon. We transferred a total of three prescriptions and only had to pay a total of $8.52 for the medication leaving us $66.48 in FREE money!!!!! Woohoo!

The following are some savings of note:

-Twenty Four bottles of Soft Scrub Retailing @ $78.96 all for only $19.44. 63% Savings!

-Thirteen jugs of FAB Laundry Detergent Retailing @ $51.87 all for only $3.48. 96% Savings!

Smart Phones = Smart Saving

There are many money saving apps out there for today's ever growing Smart Phone market. There are some new ones on the horizon though that have me excited. I am a self-admitted Tech Junkie. I love any and all new tech gadgets. I have been hearing about some new iPhone apps that allow the user to bring a coupon or coupons on to the screen for scanning at a store for instant savings. There is one in particular for coupons.com and it is only on the iPhone right now. I already take advantage of my smart phone for storing my store rewards bar code key chain cards. I simply take my phone out and scroll to the correct store and it will show a bar code on my screen for the cashier to scan. It works wonderfully and thus I am super excited for these new Mobile Coupons!
Mobile Coupons: Otherwise known as Show&Save Coupons are a niche that is still small, but will certainly be growing as applications for iPhone and Android continue to develop. So far the flagship for Show&Save digital coupons is Target. Keep your eyes open for these and I will post anything I hear especially if any new stores start accepting them.

Monday, August 15, 2011

Just went to http://www.couponcleanout.com/ to see if I could clean out any of my coupon circulars. According to couponcleanout.com I only had one stack to toss. I have over 40 P&G's from 6/5/11 if there are any military families out there that want 'em. I know that our U.S. military families stationed overseas are able to use them on base for up to SIX MONTHS after the manufacturer's expiration date! If I do not hear from anyone then I am just going to donate 'em at one of the following sites:

Update on Pharmacy Coupon

My wife went today to attempt to use the Winn Dixie Flyer Coupons for $25 gift certificates with every new prescription at Publix. As I said in my previous post, the Publix in Merritt Island will honor these coupons, however they will not honor them for Antibiotic Prescriptions since those are already free (already have a discount promo). As far as I know there is no limit though! We found two old prescriptions that we never had filled because we didnt need them. The generics will cost us $10 on each so we are going to go ahead and fill those unneeded ones in order to make a $15 profit and put it towards this weeks groceries.

Online Price Tracker

You may have heard years ago that someone came out with a website that monitored The Airlines and their pricing as it varied over years. Using that info the site would predict what time of the year was a good time to buy airline tickets and would recommend either you "Wait" or "Buy Now". The website was called FARECAST.com. It is still around but Microsoft purchased it and tweeked it to their liking. I do not know if it is still trustworthy or not.

Now there is a new website out following in FARECAST's footsteps when it comes to online merchandise. WWW.SHOPOBOT.COM . Shopobot monitors pricing trends on the internet for merchandise and with the help of some nifty algorithms it will predict high or low prices for specific dates and will recommend either you "Wait" or "Buy Now".

Too bad they don't have something like this for groceries! That would make our lives so much easier with this couponing thing. ;-)

FREE $25 Gift Card

I got Winn Dixie's weekly flyer today and found a coupon for a FREE $25 Gift Card for purchasing a new prescription at their pharmacy. I called around to see if any of my local Publixs' will accept this coupon since according to their coupon policy they accept Winn Dixie coupons as competitors coupons.

The only one that gave me a YES was Publix at:

125 E Merritt Island Cswy
Merritt Island, FL 32952-3699
(321) 452-0288

Note: This will make a nice combo with this weeks Publix $10 off $50 gas cards. I plan on getting two prescriptions this week and one of them is an antibiotic for my wife. Publix has a policy now where they fill prescriptions for certain antibiotics for free (http://www.publix.com/freeantibiotics/)
. Not sure if they will honor the Winn Dixie coupon for the FREE antibiotic prescription but I will try and let you guys know. Even if you don't take advantage of the Gift Card, the FREE Antibiotics from Publix Pharmacy is a great save in itself!

This week is lookin' a whole lot better!

iheartpublix.com posted a few days back Publix's Super Deals Match-ups for this week and it's looking very good compared to the past few! I am learning my lesson though.......
Back when I first started my couponing I had a chance to sign up for Publix's "The Savings are Stocking Up" mailer but did not do so and it would be coming in handy this week.

Hope everyone is having a great week. Don't forget we are in the middle of the Tax Holiday right now!!!

FREE GAS @ Publix again!

In this week's Publix Savings Flyer they are again offering $10.00 off of a $50 Gas Card when you buy $25 or more in groceries.

This comes in handy especially if you have over a hundred dollars in groceries! The last time they had this deal I had a bill that was over $160.00 (I was still in the beginning stages of couponing) and I purchased three of these $50 dollar gas cards. Buying each card for $40.00 enabled me to get $30.00 in gas absolutely FREE! $150 dollars worth of gas for $120 is not too bad!

This actually brings up another cool little savings tip! When I bought those gas cards I wanted to find the cheapest gas station around to use them at so I downloaded a nice little smart phone app called GAS BUDDY. You can use the phone app or just use the website! It allows you to search a specific area for cheap gas prices. You can filter your search by specific gas stations which is great because the gas cards at publix are for specific stations. You can filter your searches by price too! The cell phone app comes in handy when you are on the road and suddenly find that you are on empty! Turn on your GPS settings and GAS BUDDY will use your GPS location to find stations near you. This allowed me to make the most of Publix's Free Gas promo!

Pet Products

For those of us that have pets it can get pretty expensive between vet visits, medications, supplements, and food. Here are some savings options that may be able to offset some of your pet expenses:

Vet - A new standard in veterinary medicine comes to Cocoa Village: Owner and veterinarian, Dr. Donna Ragona, DVM, CVA offers a full service veterinary clinic – integrating low cost soft tissue surgery and preventative medicine with alternative therapies.

Medications - PetcareRX and/or PetMeds offer great discounts and occasional coupon promos

Pet Food - When it comes to Pet Food many choose to just shop at their local grocery store. If that is what you do than using the basic couponing methods can help you save a bunch on pet food. Winn Dixie right now has a flyer with over $15 in coupon savings specifically for pets! For our pets we decided early on to feed them a holistic dog food sold at local pet stores. Our brand usually retails around $32 per 15lb bag. Since my plunge into the couponing world I now print the occasional manufacturer's $7.00 coupon from their website and combine that with a $5.00 store coupon (via email sign up) at Pet Supermarket. From my understanding, Pet Smart doesn't allow combining of coupons. I have not verified that though myself. That in my opinion is the best way to save on pet food..... Store coupons + manufacturer coupons + store sales if any.

My Publix take for the week

Just like the past couple of weeks, this week did not allow for any AMAZING deals. I managed to do ok though saving 41% at Publix.

Retail: $138.71
Actual: $81.82

Deals of note:

1. With the help of a BOGO sale + mfr coupons I got four Skippy Peanut Butter Jars for $0.22 each

2. Four 3oz Weber Seasonings at $0.50 each after 2/$3 store sale + four $1 mfr coupons

My CVS take for the week

Good deal on Pampers diapers over at CVS this week. Pampers "Baby Dry" 31ct are on sale for $8.99 with $3.00 back for ECB's. Combine that with a $2.00 manufacturer coupon from 7/31/11 RP coupon circular and you get the the diapers for the equivalent of $3.99 each (60% savings). Pampers Sensitive Wipes 64ct are on sale for $2.49 each and Nestle Pure Life 24pk water is also on sale for $3.39 each. Nestle Water coupon $1/2 is in the 7/31/11 RP2 circular.
I just got back from CVS with the following:

1st purchase - Five Packs of Diapers and two cases of wipes
(One $3 CVS Birthday Reward, Five $2 mfr coupons and two $0.50 mfr coupons)
Retail: $66.53
Actual: $35.93

2nd purchase - Four Nestle Pure Life 24pk water cases and two 96ct CVS brand Antacid Tablets
(Two $1/2 mfr coupons and $15.50 in ECB's from the Diaper purchase above)
Retail: $26.54
Actual: $3.84

All totaled.......Retail: $93.07, Actual: $39.77.
I saved $53.30 which comes out to 57.3% savings!

NOTE: In order to take advantage of the Extra Care Bucks (ECB's) that I earned I had to break my transaction up into two seperate ones. That comes in handy when shopping at CVS.
