Shutting Down

Well due to our wonderful economy I am being forced to uproot my family and leave Florida. This will be my last post. Sorry guys. All I can say is that it has been fun and that Couponing Saved my family! If it were not for our stock pile we would not be eating right now. We most definitely have more grim times ahead as a nation. Stay strong and keep couponing!!!!!!

No Shopping This Week

We have had a busy week thus far and I have not had time or energy enough to even contemplate couponing. This is a perfect example of the Great Rewards that couponing blesses us with; the ability to take a week off and live off of the stockpile if needed! If any of you find any real good deals please leave a comment for others! Happy Shopping!

Free Prescriptions

I posted once before that Publix Pharmacies offer certain antibiotics for FREE. Recently they have added a few other medications to the list. Here is an article in the Orlando Sentinel about the most recent Lisinopril which is a Blood Pressure Medicine! This should come in handy for many many people as High Blood Pressure is very common!

For a list of all medications that Publix provides for FREE with a prescription click here.

"I can't coupon because I don't eat those foods"!

"I can't coupon because I don't eat those foods"! Ever hear these words before? I hear it all the time from friends that see my Weekly Savings@Publix Posts. Excuses excuses, this is all I ever hear from people when I recommend that they start couponing. Although you don't normally see coupons for such products and it is more difficult to save on these special items, it is not impossible.

It is true that many people have diets or "ways of life" that require them to eat certain foods and that it is not beneficial for these manufacturers to advertise with coupons in the newspapers. However, it is possible to find coupons for such items elsewhere. The best advice I can give people like this is:

1. Write or email the manufacturers to request coupons and check website/facebook
2. Coupon and save on Non-Food items
3. Coupon and find deals on "Money-Makers

Many manufacturing companies that specialize in diet foods have a specific consumer niche to which they cater. This means that advertising with coupons to the general public in the Sunday newspaper is not cost effective for them. This however does not mean that they don't produce coupons at all. In-fact most companies now-a-days have printable coupons online at the product webpage or at the associated Facebook Promotions Page. A tried and true method of obtaining such elusive coupons is to write or email a request directly to the company. For example: My daughter can not drink cow's milk nor soy so we tried goat milk and it was a success. I have never seen coupons for Mayenberg Goat Milk so I ventured to the website and sent a request for coupons via the webpage. In a couple weeks I had a nice little surprise in the mail.

I also let my friends know of a common misconception about coupons. The majority of grocery savings comes not from food coupons but rather from non-food coupons such as toiletries and cleaning supplies. Toiletries and cleaning supplies can get very expensive. You can rapidly increase the balance of your savings account by not being "brand specific" on non-food items.

Finally I love to let them in on a little couponing trick about items known as "money makers". Every Extreme Couponer's goal is to find money makers! These are items that are priced very low and when matched with coupons, the balance due drops into the negative range. Most grocery stores will take this negative balance and apply it towards the rest of your grocery bill! Basically the store is paying you to take those items home. This is the most sought after savings deal by extreme couponers because it allows you to put "FREE" money towards the purchase of other groceries that don't have coupons such as those "diet specific" items.

It is possible to coupon and save even when you are on restricting diets. It just takes a little extra work and focus! Good luck!

Recipes using only ingredients you have at home now

I am starving and am not a cook by any means. I was looking through the fridge and the cabinets with a blank stare as do most men. I then thought to myself that there must be a better way....possibly some sort of program out there that might allow me to enter what ingredients I have on hand and then recommend recipes that I can throw together.

I found it! Supercook.com allows you to enter each ingredient that you have in your pantry or fridge one at a time. As you enter them a list of recipes appears on the right side and is continuously updated as you add more ingredients. Now I just need to find an app that will do the cooking for me!

Freebies

Before I started couponing I never ever bothered with signing up for any kind of Free Samples in the mail. I never wanted to be bothered filling out my info over and over only to get a small sample and tons of junk mail.

Now that I have delved into the couponing lifestyle I am finding ways to save on everything and feel more compelled to sign up for these freebies and samples. I set up a separate email address just for this along with a separate facebook account for those required "likes". I also now feel that junk mail is a small price to pay for free stuff. In addition to getting these free samples, most of the time you get some very cool high value coupons for those very products! Many browsers now-a-days including Google Chrome have what is known as Auto-Complete and this feature will fill in common forms such as Name and Address for you so that this repetitive process is no longer a pain!

I now keep a daily updated page specifically for freebies and samples here. Check in every day to get the most complete list around.

Free Deodorant

Well I am bummed to say the least.....
I got up early today to head over to that Publix that was selling the Degree Deodorants at $2.45 so that I could make use of my coupons and get them for free. I verified the price over the phone the other day but they were out of stock. Being that it was not a Sale price I could not obtain a rain check thus I waited for the shelves to be stocked today Thursday. I neglected to even think that the "regular" price could or would change. I make it all the way there with coupons in hand only to be turned away by an evil sign that said $2.93. :(

Coupons are still good though and I will do another phone search for a cheaper price and let you guys know if i find one. We have until 9/16!

Oh and I did a price search online using Publix Curbside website and the stores in Georgia dropped the price this week down to $2.07 for the Degree Deodorants. That means that if they use both coupons they will make $0.68 on each stick!!! That is an awesome money maker! If you have at least 45 coupons you can make $30.00 to put towards other groceries!! Maybe we should be moving to Georgia! ;-)

ArmorAll - Race to the Finish Sweepstakes

I finally received my instant prize for playing an Armor All Sweepstakes for a new Camaro back in May. No I didn't win the Camaro but I won a Tire Prize Pack including a coupon for one Free Armor All product, a digital tire gauge w/light, a 39 pc Roadside First Aid Kit, and an Air Compressor.

Would have loved to win a Camaro but this is nice too!

Always enter these things! Even the little prizes are worth the effort and it is always cool to get free stuff in the mail!

Free Deodorant

FREE DEODORANT!!!!

In Georgia it is real easy to get free things at Publix but here in Florida we have to do a little searching.

In the current Publix Green Flyer you will find a $2/1 coupon for Degree or Dove deodorants.

There is also a manufacturer's coupon in the 8/28 RP circular for $75/1 Non Premium degree deodorants.

If your store charges $2.75 or less then you are in like flynn! However, this I found out tonight is hard to come by in the Space Coast area! I drove to two of my favorite locations and the lowest I could find was $2.93. Not a bad deal but not FREE! Urgghhh. So I come home and decide to call around to do some price checks. Planning on a trip to Orlando tomorrow so I included some Publix's along the route to Orlando too! 40 minutes later I finally find one that has a price for the Degree deodorant that will allow me to get them free with coupons but they are all sold out. Hooray! Not a big problem though since they are not on sale and both coupons are good for a while. Publix coupon expires on 9/16 while the mfr coupon expires 9/25. So we have until the sixteenth for them to refill the shelves.

Publix Non-Advertised Prices Online

Ever want to know prices for items that are not in the weekly flyers? I have always just had to get in the car and drive over to my local store to find this info out. I found a neat little trick that can help us out here. Publix is doing a trial run at a few stores on a new service called Publix Curbside. Publix Curbside is basically a curbside pick-up service for groceries. Since you must place your order ahead of time from a computer they make the prices available for all of Publix's products online at the Curbside website: http://www.publix.com/curbside/

The trial run of this program is for only three Publix locations though. One in Tampa Florida, and two in Georgia. I am going to use the Florida store to give me an estimate as to what I can expect prices to be at my local store. It may not be perfect but an estimate suits my needs!

Tip # 8

Tip # 8:

Though sites like Iheartpublix.com and couponmom.com try really hard to make sure they cover every possible deal and list every available coupon they are not perfect. I think it would be near impossible to list every deal and every available coupon that is out there every week every month and year to year.

The point I am trying to make is that if you want to make sure you do not miss any deals:
1. Save every coupon you come across
2. Personally cross reference your store sales against online coupon databases and also against your binder in order to come up with your own "match-ups".

Using Coupon Match-ups from online sites makes our job so easy and is a life saver for many. However, if you have the time you should do it yourself and compare with theirs. Sometimes they miss things especially if you have coupons in your binder that they are not aware of!

One such instance happened to me this week. Iheartpublix.com posted their "match-ups" last week and I copied down the ones that I wanted as usual. When doing my own "match-ups" though, I found a deal that was not mentioned on that website. Publix was having a BOGO sale on Cheerios. I had some manufacturer coupons and store coupons for the cereal. Iheartpublix.com listed the manufacturer coupons but not the store coupons. The store coupons were $2/1 and enabled me to get the boxes of cereal for free. Actually the store paid me $0.11 per box to take them home!

If you have the time, do your own match-ups!
Found some new Tear Pad coupons over at the Merritt Island Publix on the Merritt Island Causeway.

Also keep an eye open for some new coupon flyers as seen over at Iheartpublix.com!

Remember guys, I am mostly documenting my personal couponing trek here. If you want all of the most up to date info on couponing and new booklets/deals at Publix etc., make sure you check out sites like iheartpublix.com on a daily basis. I actually check in daily with multiple sites to make sure I am getting all the possible info that I can. I only post a small fraction of what I find!
